The driving question is what engages the students into your project. If there is not a quality driving question, students may not be excited, engaged, or challenged during your project. Student engagement is the key to having a success project.
To provide a complex enough question allowing multiple participants to reach independent conclusions.
Why should a staff member invest their time to ensure there is a quality driving question to guide the project?
The driving question “sets the stage for higher order thinking”. A quality driving question will ensure that the project is successful, that students are engaged and challenged by the topic, and that all participants have gained a deeper understanding at the end of the project.

As stated in the video, the driving question will be core of the project to keep everyone focused on the project. The driving question will allow facilitators and students to continue to revisit the purpose, effectiveness, and successfulness of the project.

To help ensure that the activity will be beneficial and purposeful.
To keep everyone (students and facilitators) focused and to keep sight of the original idea while still allowing room for adjustments as we move through the project.

A driving question is essential to the ‘buy in’ needed by students. It needs to dig deeply and go beyond the typical who, where, when and instead ask why, how, in what way, etc.
