STEM Initiatives Overview

The U.S. Department of Education is collaborating with other federal agencies to provide exciting learning opportunities for students in 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) programs. Check out the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), NASA, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and National Park Service (NPS) portals, where you’ll find hands-on project ideas and resources your program can use to bring science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to life.

Institute of Museum and Library Services

In coordination with the U.S. Department of Education, the Institute of Museum and Library Services developed STEM-rich making and tinkering activities. Activity guides and professional learning resources are included, so you can try these projects in your own program!

NASA

In coordination with the U.S. Department of Education, NASA has developed several Engineering Design Challenges. Here you will find activity guides and professional learning resources, so you can try these projects in your own program!

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

In coordination with the U.S. Department of Education, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration designed several Watershed Project activities. Here you will find the overview of the NOAA–21st CCLC Watershed Projects, including several resources!

National Park Service 

In coordination with the U.S. Department of Education, the National Park Service has developed a Hands on the Land Citizen Science Project: Place-Based STEM Learning program. By partnering with national parks, 21st CCLC sites and students were able to participate in engaging citizen science projects. Activity guides and professional learning resources are included, so you can try these projects in your own program!
