For our high school students what we have found to be great is the ability to have the students provide feedback/cues when we they are ready to transition.  Students that are dealing with SE issues they may need to transition into another activity that helps keep them engaged.

Our second and third grade teachers used the Daily 5 Learning Stations for ELA and Math during Core instruction as follows:
BOY - Introduce stations during core instruction

Teacher and Me - Modeling and Reteach)
Read with Partner - Repeated Reading, Fluency
Technology (Listening) - Listen to story or create your own story ending
Read to Self - Independent Reading Activity

Teachers assigned stations (using a wheel of fortune) and provided resources in each station.
Students rotated to one station at the beginning of the year and then gradually increased to four stations.
Teachers signaled after 20 minutes when students moved to the next center.
