Online Professional Learning and
Technical Assistance for
21st Century Community Learning Centers

Y4Y TA Topics

 

Y4Y offers free virtual technical assistance to 21st CCLC grantees in a variety of topics. The virtual sessions are 90 minutes and the in-person sessions are between 4 and 16 hours. These sessions can be requested by 21st CCLC State Coordinators and are tailored to meet the needs of the requesting state. 

 

An Introduction to 21st CCLC

Objectives:

  • Understand federal, state and local laws, regulations and guidance that dictate the administration of 21st CCLC programs
  • Describe the process of applying for a 21st CCLC state request for proposal
  • Identify the key strategies for designing a high quality 21st CCLC program

 

Career Pathways for Students

Objectives:

  • Utilize the career pathways framework to design a career readiness path for students of all ages
  • Apply knowledge of career frameworks to engage in career awareness, exploration and preparation activities
  • Identify resources to support career exploration and plan to maximize the utility of potential resources

 

Child and Adolescent Development

Objectives:

  • Understand theories of development and developmental stages
  • Identify when development falls outside of what is considered typical
  • Create positive environments that facilitate developmental relationships with youth
  • Employ strategies to enhance communication with stakeholders

 

Citizen Science

Objectives:

  • Explore what citizen science is and why citizen science benefits students
  • Develop strategies to implement this approach into your program
  • Identify Y4Y citizen science resources that can be customized and used in your program

 

Civic Learning and Engagement

Objectives:

  • Identify the institutions, participation and deliberation practices and rules and laws that are central for civic learning and engagement
  • Describe and differentiate between civic virtues and democratic principles
  • Dissect the key characteristics of a successful civic learning and engagement project
  • Identify youth characteristics that promote civic and democratic engagement
  • Address challenges to engaging multiple perspectives and identify methods for productive discourse

 

Continuous Education (formerly known as "Aligning With the School Day")

Objectives:

  • Engage and reflect on the six core elements of continuous education
  • Develop methods of improving continuous education in your program
  • Identify Y4Y resources that support continuous education

 

Creating a Positive Learning Environment

Objectives:

  • Assess program climate in relation to clearly defined values and culture
  • Implement strategies to create and sustain a positive learning environment where students, families and program staff feel safe and supported
  • Identify Y4Y resources that assist with facilitating positive relationships among staff and students

 

Digital Literacy

Objectives:

  • Define digital literacy and identify risks of poor digital literacy skills
  • Outline methods for evaluating online content
  • Share practical ways to communicate to diverse audiences through multiple modalities

 

Drug and Alcohol Prevention

Objectives:

  • Understand why drug and alcohol prevention can be effective within your programs
  • Identify Y4Y resources that assist with drug and alcohol prevention
  • Develop strategies to implement drug and alcohol prevention within your programs

 

Family Engagement

Objectives:

  • Identify steps for planning, designing and implementing family engagement activities
  • Explore how to design activities that meet family needs
  • Identify strategies for effectively recruiting families

 

Financial Literacy

Objectives:

  • Describe the five basic concepts of financial literacy
  • Design and facilitate financial literacy activities aligned to student needs
  • Identify resources and methods for implementing financial literacy in 21st CCLC programs
