Literacy For All: Stories as Mirrors, Windows, and Sliding Glass Doors

Thursday, December 08, 2022 at 1:00 PM (Eastern)

Join the U.S. Department of Education’s You for Youth (Y4Y) Technical Assistance Team and special guests for a session on supporting literacy for the whole child and literacy for all. You’ll learn about a framework for selecting and sharing stories to build students’ interest, empathy, and understanding of themselves, others, and the world. You’ll also learn best practices for identifying the literacy needs of diverse students and families — and aligning your activities to meet those needs. The time to re-engage students after pandemic learning losses is now: In 2022, reading performance for boys and girls in grades 4 and 8 showed the biggest drop since 1990, regardless of income status and racial or ethnic group, according to the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). You’ll leave this LIVE With Y4Y! session with renewed confidence (and practical tools) to support literacy for all.
